The range of jumps made by equestrians varies almost as much as the people jumping them. We have seen jumps made from nearly everything, including wine barrels, shipping pallets, tree branches, kiddie pools, railroad ties, pool inflatables, and even car tires. However, when it comes to building Custom Jumps, there is no room for improvising, as designers carefully refine each jump before builders ever lift a finger. So, how are these Custom Horse Jumps are made?
Each of our Custom Jumps starts with a spark of imagination, a stir of excitement, and a few notes jotted on a piece of paper. Sometimes the inspiration comes from our clients and we are simply called upon to help bring their dreams to fruition, while, other times, we are creatively mused to dream up our own ideas. Some ideas for horse jumps seem logical - like unicorns, horse shoes, or the American flag; however, some are far more fanciful - like Little Red Riding Hood, emojis, or even the Arc de Triomphe in Paris!
Many of our clients have their own unique logos that they like to incorporate into their jump designs, so we ask them to send us a digital version of their logo in PDF or EPS format, if possible. After receiving their logo, we use our client’s ideas and color schemes to start creating computer-generated mockups. This designing is done in collaboration with both our in-house team, as well as independent designers.
When we complete the first-draft of the computer mockup, we forward it to our client for their review. Sometimes our first-drafts are perfect, while, other times, adjustments are needed. After our client has decided what is best, we take their feedback into consideration and make any design changes they would like. This back-and-forth process of designing can take several drafts to finalize; however, we provide as much design time as needed to completely satisfy our client.
Once the design process is complete, we finalize the price quotation, based upon the most current jump design. Prior to the production of custom orders, we ask for a deposit of half of the total and any remaining balance is due prior to shipping or pickup. The use of credit cards and/or flexible payment terms are available, in addition to PayPal financing.
Finally, we move to production! Specialized materials are ordered, computer mockups are turned into blueprints, and any final details are hammered-out one last time to ensure a smooth work flow. We have five in-house builders, plus a dedicated office staff, to help us create our jumps. Additionally, we also use a variety of other shops, like CNC machinists, sandblasters, welders, powder-coaters, and many others to ensure the best possible product.
The production time for Custom Horse Jumps can range from a few days to a few months, depending on the design and size of the project; however, most custom jumps take between 3 to 6 weeks to complete and ship. Items can also be picked up at our shop in Rancho Cordova, CA, or we can deliver for free to the Murieta Equestrian Center (MEC) nearby.
Shipping jumps is often an expensive and difficult process, so we only charge a minimal shipping fee, meaning we do not make any profit from shipping. The use of private shipping companies helps us to receive the maximum service for the best possible price. Large carriers like UPS or FedEx are very expensive and items are more likely to be damaged, as orders are unloaded and reloaded at various shipping hubs between destinations.
We are constantly striving to improve the quality of our jumps, as well as our production time, by streamlining our processes, using only the highest-quality vendors and materials, and establishing in-house manufacturing to elevate the need for outside intervention. We’ve grown from producing simple wooden standards for local barns to creating elaborate features using cutting-edge materials for world-class companies.
